Citibike and its parent company, Motivate, have become one of New York’s most recognizable brands, known intimately by customers and the public alike.
Internally, the company’s rapid growth and its teams’ divergent spatial needs meant there was no consistent identity to support company culture. The goal of this project was to propose a means to end the ‘church and state’ like schism between the operating groups; admin of Motivate and Citibike and the mechanics that repair the bikes themselves.
Through a mixture of relaxed, open common areas, floor-to-ceiling glass-walled offices and brightly-lit hallways interconnecting distinct zones of operation, we succeeded in stitching together admin, dispatch, customer service, and maintenance. The result is a unified ecosystem where disparate departments operate as one super-organism.
The circulation space which connects the offices and the US’s largest bicycle shop, doubles as a museum space to the urban mobility movement
